Why Ant-Infested Yards Need Professional Treatment
August 8, 2018

Oklahoma seems to be an area that experiences huge ant populations year after year. Pharaoh ants, carpenter ants, and odorous house ants, in particular, are the most common ants that invade yards, properties, and homes in Oklahoma. The unpredictable weather in our area often drives these ants inside our homes, whether it’s a time of flooding when they are looking for shelter or times of drought when they are looking for sources of water. These pests are also constantly looking for food sources which they can find inside our homes as well.
Pharaoh ants are probably the biggest nuisance in our area. These ants are tiny yellow, orange, or honey-colored ants that prefer to take shelter inside our homes in humid places like the kitchen, bathroom, or laundry areas. Pharaoh ants are particularly difficult to eliminate due to their huge colony sizes and the fact that they are prolific breeders.
Carpenter ants are large ants that are typically black, though some species may have reddish or yellowish coloration as well. These ants infest moist, rotting, and dead wood in order to create tunnels and nests within it. Carpenter ants can cause extensive damages to your home, furniture, and personal belongings. If these ants infest your home, they will cause damages to your wooden floors, ceilings, walls, furniture, and structural beams and leave you with massive repair bills.
Odorous house ants are small black or brown colored ants. When crushed, these ants give off a rotten coconut-like odor. Odorous house ants will also leave a distinct trail for other ants to follow in order to locate a food source. They tend to infest in large numbers so you will find them marching around your kitchen in large groups.
No matter what type of ant is invading your home, they can be both dangerous and annoying! And, if you missed out on taking preventative measures early on to avoid ant infestations this summer, there is not a lot you can do to rid yourself of them now. Ants are tricky pests to control as they will hide away to avoid elimination and, if the queen survives your elimination attempts, the colony will repopulate and you will be faced with an infestation again and again!
